Is Barry a User?

Take a look at his trapezius muscles

Anabolic steroid use is in the news again and politicians are revving up ideas about legislating them out of existence. Laws are not likely to make a difference in a culture that reveres performance above ethical behavior.

Steroid users aren't hard to spot. First, look at everyone who has ever had anythng to do with the BALCO nutrition supplement company (currently under mass indictment for steroid distribution). Then, look for relatively rapid weight gain, head shaving (it obscures baldness), huge muscles between the shoulders and neck, extra prominent veins on the arms, and thighs so big the whole pelvis has to rotate during walking.

This is not a new thing - our first column about steroid use by athletes appeared in a Flagstaff AZ paper in the 1960s. Then in February 2002, Yo'Doc had a piece about it.

Check the link at the bottom of this page, then go out to the ballpark and see if you can spot the juiced players.
